The future is the light on the water brings together a curated show of recent original prints, predominantly limited edition etchings.
These works explore both the within and beyond in landscape; they investigate emotional and spiritual responses to being fully immersed in nature, expressing experienced depths and heights, alongside fragility and permanence. The prints especially seek to convey the exquisite dialogue between water and land.
Writing by the distinguished British poet Alice Oswald and American Pulitzer Prizewinner Annie Dillard, have been instrumental in providing poets’ and authors’ response to landscape in written and aural form. Responding to their monochrome pages and voices, the artist’s etched lines and tones on copper and zinc have gradually emerged, layer upon layer.
The prints are a conclusion, for now, to both the reading of texts and the reading of rivers in the Peak District and Dartmoor Devon. They have emerged from being out physically recording and remembering, then recalling and revealing within the studio.
